Sound
Choosing the right instrument is about discovering a personal fit, recognizing a tone, when you hear it, you know that it is right. Because it is familiar, and yet new. People say that the instruments I make, feel and sound like the instruments they have been playing forever.
I am the first violinist of the Borromeo String Quartet. I teach at the New England Conservatory and perform over 100 concerts per year, including major international venues.
I have known Marco Coppiardi for 27 years during which he has been the restorer of my main instruments, a Stradivarius and a Guarneri del Gesú.
Marco is a detail-oriented individual who has studied violin making in Cremona, Italy, and I feel that his skills as a restoration specialist are invaluable in the continuum of the classic Cremonese tradition.
I have become a frequent visitor of his boutique studio on Newbury Street in Boston. As the value of Stradivarius and Guarneri instruments increases every year I believe that Marco’s passion for exactitude, curiosity, and scientific principles makes him one of the best choices for a major restoration of an important instrument.
